Learn why Organizational Readiness Surveys are essential to your organization prior to Evidence-Based Practice (EBP) Implementation.
Preparation is stage one of Evidence-Based Practice (EBP) implementation. A critical element of this stage involves assessing readiness, which includes conducting an Organizational Readiness Survey.
Why and How Should an Organization Use a Readiness Survey?
The Organizational Readiness Survey can be used to assess workplace culture for any large initiative. The survey was specifically created, however, to identify factors that may affect a department's ability to implement and sustain changes related to the Pennsylvania Partnership for Criminal Justice Improvement's (PPCJI) Strategic Plan.
The survey helps staff and leadership identify two key perceptions:
How the organization currently operates
How the organization should ideally operate
With this information in hand, organizations are better able to develop a plan to address areas where there are large gaps between perceptions of the ideal and the current environments.
The Organizational Readiness Survey document includes 10 “Tips From the Field ” compiled by several Pennsylvania County Probation Chiefs who have previously conducted the survey. The tips highlight how organizations can most effectively utilize the survey.
Who Should Participate in the Organizational Readiness Survey and What Types of Questions are Asked?
The Organizational Readiness Survey should be taken by all department personnel. The questions asked are intended to measure perceptions of a variety of factors, including:
Effective communication
Staff alignment with department mission
Trust in leadership
“Leadership” is defined as all management including chief, deputies, directors, supervisors, and other similar positions. Only one (1) survey should be completed by each staff member.
Early adopters of the Organizational Readiness Survey are strongly encouraged to revisit the survey to assess the current operational perceptions and identify any new areas of concern that may need to be addressed in the annual plan.
